In the first six-months of the project at Macate the running costs will be covered
by TIOS/CNCS. During that time TIOS will prepare the Committee of Volunteers to
take over the project fully, including funding the Resource Center through small income
generating projects.
We have specifically chosen the first week in November for the opening as the
children are on holiday from school until the first of the year so it is a good time for them
to get exposure to different vocational trade skills and to attend basic health safety
education classes. Once the school year commences again in January, the center schedule
will be adjusted to accommodate their school programming. By that time, there will be
“clubs” of children with different interests (sewing club, knitting club, carpentry club,
etc.)
All this has been made possible through your generous donations. Also, funding
was provided through a private donor for the purchase of a vehicle which we bought in
August. This has helped us tremendously in organizing our time and to be reliable and to
facilitate our work in Macate. On behalf of the children, we want to thank each and every
one of you for your donations of cash, materials and support. It is through your donations
that our work is possible.
We understand the need for sustainability. We will continue to monitor and visit
and provide direction and advice at our center in Macate and will be very hands-on
working with them until the first of the year. Then our hands-on time will decrease as
their ability to run the center increases. We are looking to open a similar center in
Chimoio which is a town of 250,000 people and more than 3,500 orphans.
At that point, we will start a similar project of a resource and production center
for the orphans in Chimoio. This center will act as an education center for children to
learn about animals and farming as part of nutrition, and herbal plants as well as the
production of health educational and products. The products will be sold as a means of
making the center, the orphans, and TIOS more self-sustainable and less reliant on
donations to operate. Attached, please find the Xcel document, showing the application
of your donations.
