Macate Resource Center.
The first meeting between TIOS and the community was in March, 2004 and
since then the conversations went through different stages to make certain that the
community fully understood the challenges and responsibilities of having a Resource
Center that would basically be run by them. Initially TIOS will supervise and provide
training; decreasing it’s involvement until the Center is completely run by the community
with sustainable funding coming from showing videos and selling the products they
make.
The core objective of the Center is to instill in the children the idea that they can
be independent, learn skills for life, and rise above poverty through the knowledge
acquired at the Center, and developed within the community. It is a prototype for more
Orphan Resource Centers in Mozambique.
