Amy Gillespie is Back!!

www.aosci.org

On April 24 Any Gillespie will be back with us for a visit. For many of you who did not get the chance to know Amy, she began attending Unity a little over a year ago in the midst of the stirring of spirit. She developed a deep compassion for the AIDS orphans in Africa. To make her wonderful story short, she enlisted with a humanitarian agency and went to Mozambique where she has served for 9 months. We have supported her work through our church tithes. She will be sharing her inspiring story of transformation and service on Sunday, April 24 at both services. Don’t miss the joy of hearing what your tithes and prayers have been supporting!

A reprint of Amy's October 2004 Newsletter article follows:

Amy's Wish List

Since we are working together on orphan projects I will add their specific detailed list of needs to my list of donations.

• Knitting needle (size 3 ½ cm.) I don’t know how that translates to non-metric but they are using them to make baby caps and boots and mittens (I know it’s Africa, but they really do use them here). Anyway, they are small.

Along with that very fine yarn for making baby things.

• Crochet hook number 2 or 2.5 cm – again this is like the size you would use for making doilies or table cloths.

• Also size 1.25 mm – just send whatever small crochet hooks you have

• Also the filet stitch yarn in white only.

• Embroidery floss (especially brown, green, pink, red, blue and red)
I think the idea of all the other colors they make in the U.S. has never entered their minds, so send whatever you have. It’s easy to pack.

• Thread, any color
• Sewing scissors
• Tape measures
• Elastic and bias tape
• Sewable Velcro
• Sewing machine needles number 10 or 12 (these are for treadle sewing machines. There are no electric ones here).

From a personal standpoint my list continues for anything:

Homemade soap making that doesn’t require electricity (refrigeration)

Same for candle making and herbal lotions or massage oils

Herbal medicines

Anything on making paints from plants (Eva?)

Anything on musical instrument making

***Desperately need that pattern for anatomical dolls as the sewing machines are being delivered while I’m in the States. There’s a woman in California who makes them already.

**Also desperate for a pattern for making hammock chairs or beds

**Does anyone have anything on how to work with cotton or wool to make it into yarn or rope by hand – no looms or spinning wheels. (I think my Mom has this one)

**Anything on how to play guitar (the old fashioned kind)

Any printed First Aid material – we can scan and translate to Portuguese or tribal language.
